How the calculation works
Multiply lawn length by width to get the base area. Add an allowance for trimming and the shape of the lawn. Measure irregular sections separately rather than forcing them into one rectangle.
Worked example
A 10 m × 5 m lawn is 50 m². With a 5% allowance, plan for about 52.5 m² of turf.
Ordering note: Turf is a living product. Supplier delivery windows, installation conditions and the supplier's minimum order can affect the final quantity.
Common mistakes
- Measuring the lawn's longest points and treating it as a rectangle.
- Forgetting curved or narrow sections.
- Using a waste allowance that ignores the actual layout.
FAQ
Should I measure every section?
For an irregular lawn, split it into simple rectangles, calculate each area, then add the areas together.
