Paver Calculator

Estimate the number of rectangular pavers needed for a simple paved area by combining the project area with the paver dimensions and an allowance for cuts and breakage.

Enter your measurements and select Calculate.

How the paver calculation works

Pavers = ceiling[(area ÷ paver area) × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100)].

Worked example

A 5 m × 4 m patio is 20 m². A 200 × 100 mm paver covers 0.02 m². With 10% allowance, the estimate is 1,100 pavers.

Planning note: This calculator is a practical estimate. Check product packaging, supplier information, site conditions and applicable local requirements before ordering materials or starting construction.

Measure a patio or path

Measure the length and width of each rectangular section. For a path that changes width, divide it into sections and calculate each one.

Calculate paver area

Convert the paver dimensions from millimetres to metres before calculating area. A 200 × 100 mm paver is 0.2 × 0.1 m, or 0.02 m².

Why paver waste matters

Cuts around boundaries, corners, drains and curves can create off-cuts. Some pavers can also break during cutting or handling.

Layout changes the quantity

A running-bond, basket-weave or other pattern can create a different cutting plan from a simple grid. A detailed layout can improve the estimate for complex projects.

Common paver-calculation mistakes

Do not forget joints and edge restraints when measuring the finished area. The paver count itself does not calculate the base, bedding sand or jointing material.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include sand or base material?

No. It estimates paver units only. Base, bedding and jointing materials require separate calculations.

How much extra should I order?

Use the product or installer recommendation. Increase the allowance for complicated shapes and patterns.

Can I use this for a driveway?

It can estimate the paver count for a rectangular driveway, but driveway base construction and paver suitability are separate engineering and product considerations.
